Simon Stock

Simon Stock (* around 1165 in the county of Kent, † May 16 1265 in Bordeaux) is a saint of the Catholic Church, the Prior General of the Carmelite Order was and had a Marian apparition in which Mary presented him with a scapular.

Life

Simon was born around the year 1165 in the English county of Kent. According to tradition, he lived as a hermit in a hollow tree, to 1237 Carmelites came to England. Then he entered the Carmelite Order in 1241 and was elected at the General Chapter in 1245 in Aylesford to the Superior General. 1251 is it the Virgin Mary appeared, handed him a scapular. This Scapular was part of the religious garment. By Marian apparition the pious embossing of the Order was deepened. It will also generate the Skapulierbruderschaft developed. On May 16, 1265 Simon died during a visitation in Bordeaux.
