Simone del Pollaiolo

Simone del Pollaiuolo, called Il Cronaca (* October 30, 1457 in Florence, † September 27, 1508 ibid ) was an Italian architect of the Renaissance. He came from a famous family of artists from Florence. Like many others of his family also spent Cronaca a number of years, specifically the time 1475-1485, the study of ancient buildings in Rome. His employees or construction management is occupied for a number of Florentine buildings, others his involvement is only suspected. Since about 1495, he is the architect of the Cathedral of Florence.

Works

  • Especially by the famous Florentine grandeur palace Palazzo Strozzi, his name has become known. However, not probably erroneously as the construction work of Benedetto is rare, but since Maianos issued, yes partly because it is also written to Giuliano Sangallo. Without doubt, however, is that Cronaca from 1497 the management of the building held that imposing cornice of the palace was designed by him and that he is responsible for the design of the court.
  • Presumably, according to his plans was built in 1489 Palazzo Horne in Florence.
  • It is very probable that he designed the Palazzo Guadagni in Piazza Santo Spirito in Florence.
  • His participation in the Florentine church of Santa Maria delle Carceri in Prato is guaranteed for the area of the vestibule since 1492. Here he supported Giuliana da Sangallo, who bore the main responsibility for the church.
  • Together with Antonio Sangallo the Elder, he erected 1495/96 the Salone dei Cinquecento, the Hall of the Council of the Five Hundred in the Palazzo Vecchio on the initiative of the Dominican preacher Savonarola.
