Simone Niggli -Luder ( born January 9, 1978 in Burgdorf ) is a Swiss orienteer. Considered the best orienteer of all time and won 23 world titles since 2001. Niggli -Luder has announced her resignation at the end of this season. Your last international competition they played in the World Cup final in Baden on 5/6 October 2013, where she won both races and also the ninth overall World Cup title was won

Life

Niggli -Luder comes from Burgdorf in the Canton of Bern. She studied biology and married 2003 Matthias Niggli, which is also orienteers. Both live together with their three children (* 2008; twins * 2011) in Münsingen.

Sporting career

With 23 gold, two silver and six bronze medals at world championships and ten gold medals, four silver and one bronze medal at the European Championships she is the most successful runner of all time in this sport. For a great sensation it caused at the World Championships in Switzerland in 2003, as they (sprint, middle and long distance relay) won gold in all disciplines. This feat has been widely regarded as unrepeatable and returned to the home advantage. At the World Championships in Japan 2005, she repeated this success, however, and won again in all disciplines gold. A total of nine times she won the overall World Cup in their discipline. 2003, 2005 and 2007, she was elected to the Swiss Sportswoman of the Year.
