Simony Hut

The Simonyhütte is a mountain hut in the OeAV 2,205 meters above sea level, just below the Hallstatt glacier at the foot of the Hoher Dachstein. Thus, the shelter is located in the northern part of the Dachstein mountain range high above Hallstatt in Upper Austria, and is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut.

History

In 1843, a resting and shelter was in Wildkar, below the present hut, first established, then called hotel Simony, by Friedrich Simony, the pioneer of Dachstein development. By building on the present site, the Simony himself had chosen, began in 1876, on August 18, 1877 followed by the ceremonial opening. Due to the increasing popularity, always new conversions and extensions were quickly needed the first time from 1891 to 1893. Thereafter, from 1922 to 1933, a general restoration followed in 1953 and finally a renewed supply and conversion from 1961 until 1963.

Since 1977, the centenary, exist next to the cabin an alpine training center and a climbing area. With the construction of a sewage treatment plant was started in 1989, in 1998 the old dugout Hotel Simony refurbished and the following year the Simonyhütte ( reopening July 4. 1999).

Infrastructure

The cottage is not only an important base for mountain climbers that can do from here longer tours of the Dachstein Mountains, but also a mountaineering school with climbing, where training courses ( for example, glacier or climbing courses) are offered. Attached is a covered climbing.

The Simonyhütte is open all year round and in winter provides many options for ski touring and snowshoeing. A water tank under the observation deck provides year-round water supply to the hut. A biological treatment plant ensures pollution of the Alpine space.

Directly from the cottage is the roof stone chapel, the highest church in the northern Alps.
