Simple Knowledge Organization System
The Simple Knowledge Organization System ( SKOS, freely translated " simple system for organizing knowledge ") is an on the Resource Description Framework (RDF ) and RDF Schema (RDFS ) based formal language to encode documentation languages such as thesauri, classifications, or other controlled vocabularies. With SKOS simply publishing and combination of controlled, structured and machine-readable vocabularies for the Semantic Web is to be made possible.
SKOS was published on 18 August 2009 as a recommendation by the W3C.
It includes a collection of standards and specifications to support knowledge organization systems ( Knowledge Organization Systems) such as thesauri, classification schemes, taxonomies, and other types of controlled vocabulary.
