Sinar

The Sinar AG is a Swiss manufacturer of specialized cameras, headquartered in Zurich.

The company dates back to the photo studio of Carl August Koch. His son Hans -Carl expanded the studio in 1911 to a photographic trade. After his early death, his widow took over the business and transferred it in 1947 to his son Carl Hans Koch, who was a certified photographer and photographic dealer. From dissatisfaction with the then large-format cameras, he developed a modular camera and received in 1947 the first patents for his Sinar camera. The modular and standardized design leads then in 1948 to the name of the first Sinar, the " Sinar Norma ". 1968, the son of Hans -Carl went into the family corporation and the production moved to Feuerthalen.

In November 2004, a cooperation agreement in the field of digital camera backs with Jenoptik, which led to a 51% interest in September 2005 began. The remaining 49 % remained in family ownership. In April 2007 Jenoptik also took over this 49% of the shares and is now sole owner.

On 1 October 2009, the Zurich-based products derived from the Tekno AG Sinar Photography AG took over the development, sales, service and support for the products of the brand Sinar Sinar AG. On 1 January 2011, all product and trademark rights were transferred to the Sinar Sinar Photography AG. Both the production and the warehouse is managed independently of the previous connections with partners and suppliers, and the former site of Zurich. The company is thus completely independent since the beginning of 2011 and performs all operations under the direction of CEO Stephan Faessler. The former company Sinar AG in Feuerthalen was disbanded in late 2011.
