Singapura (cat)

The Singapura is the smallest breed cat. She was brought in 1975 by the American family Meadows from Singapore to the United States and shown a year later at an exhibition. She is still one of the rarest breed cats.

Origin and History

Singapura is the Malay word for the Southeast Asian island nation of Singapore. In the cat world, however, one reads again and again the story of their origin, according to which the Singapura their small size is due to the fact that they have lived in Singapore in plumbing - where even her middle name "Drain Cat" comes from.

Meanwhile predominates in the literature, the version according to which this breed is a selective breeding, even if at the beginning the participation actually wild cats from Singapore. However, the present appearance owes Singapura conscious mating with the very people oriented Burma and Abyssinian cats.

Only in 1987 came the first Singapura through Belgium to Europe.

Appearance and breed standard

The Singapura is a rather slender cat. With a weight of about 2 kg ( she-cat ) and between 2.5 and 3 kilograms ( hangover ) is the body of this cat was small to medium in size, yet it is muscular and strong and acts but graceful. The compact body is supported by short but strong legs, giving the animal a great bounce. The paws are small and oval, the bales should be brown - pink.

What is striking is the large ears of Singapura that are wide at the top and run approach pointed to the end. The neck is muscular and rather short. Significant are also the huge, almond- shaped eyes, which give the Singapura a watchful look. They work particularly expressive by a thin, dark brown border and are in this breed a very important detail. You can have a hazel, green or yellow tint. You should stand far apart. The face of the Singapura is relatively small. The Singapura has a salmon-colored nose and salmon-colored ears. The nose should be outlined tender, as well as the lips and Whisker openings. The tail is rather short and slender with a rounded tip.

The coat of the Singapura has grown bright and fine, smooth, dense, tight to the body, silky smooth and short. It is similar to the Abyssinian and feels silky soft to touch. The Singapura breed standard from only a single color is recognized: the so-called sepia agouti. This is a seal brown ivory hue which is brown " ticked ". Ticking this means that each hair is two or more times banded ( dark and light ). This blurs the pattern of the coat pattern, and the skin appears almost solid color. The belly is lighter and has the color of unbleached muslin.

Character

The Singapura is a gentle, loving and very affectionate, cuddly cat. She follows her owner in every room and feels most comfortable when they can be with their people easy. Singapuras have a very friendly nature, are adaptable and easily. They get along well with other dogs and can play very left out. Only towards strangers, the Singapura is a bit reluctant. If she has to her people but composed confidence, she is a loving and affectionate companion.
