Single-serve coffee container

Under a coffee pod refers to a single- dose servings ( about seven grams per cup) of coffee powder in a portion pack (similar to a tea bag ) sufficient coffee for one cup. The coffee can not be brewed with an ordinary coffee, but only one produced by the manufacturer for that purpose machine, before scalding in the machine fine needles perforate the pad and the transport packaging thus acts like a sieve.

Were developed in 2001 by Douwe Egberts coffee pods together with Philips for Senseo system. However, they are based on the previous espresso Pads Illy Italian inventor Antonino Di Leva. Almost all the major coffee roasters such as Tchibo, Melitta, Jacobs and Dallmayr also offer to Senseo compatible coffee pods. The Austrian company Julius Meinl tried to bring coffee for catering to the market due to low demand, the production of the pads has been adjusted, however.

After the success of coffee and tea pods thinner, thicker Cappuccinopads now (with milk powder) and Schokoladenpads ( with Milch-/Kakaopulver for making hot chocolate ) offered.

In trade coffee can, compared with coffee powder, are sold at a much higher price per gram.
