Genesis

Guitarist Mike Moya about the making of the album:

"We decided to take a few pictures. All came together to set up their instruments on, and we just played. Sometimes we composed music while playing, sometimes we whip up simple stuff and took it up and it sounded good. We did not want to repeat and Godspeed You play all the time with a big band, so we always have randomly picked a few people - hey, you and you play something together! We have about two weeks spent the recordings to make, and in the end we had a lot of material that we had been reduced to an album. "

Concept

Although it should not be a concept album, return to the album on recurring motifs consisting of field recordings, which deal with theoretical and practical concepts concerning the climate, Rebellion, gentrification and love.

The album was recorded in an old house ( from the band 15 Ontario called ) was added. The dilapidated house was scheduled for demolition. Quote from the liner notes: " your bulldozer and demolished pear can from the dilapidated stairs and make squeaky wooden boards sawdust --- but they can not here the recordings which emerged destroy ". The album thus refers negatively to gentrification and social change, similar to the main project of the band: Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Therefore, many tones and sounds that are normally removed from the recordings were retained aware in the songs. These include squeaky doors, paper shuffling and noise from outside. The most famous sound comes from a passing next to the house ambulances and its switched on siren song "Love Song for 15 Ontario ". The vehicle was later honored as a guest musician.
