Singular (software)

Singular (own spelling: the singular) is a computer algebra system for polynomial computations with emphasis on the areas of commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and singularity theory. It includes an intuitive C- like programming language with different data types for arithmetic in polynomial rings. This allows the user to write their own libraries. The software package includes a variety of such libraries for various applications. Elementary algorithms are implemented for reasons of efficiency in the singular kernel in C or C.

Singular is developed at Department of Mathematics, University of Kaiserslautern, headed by Wolfram Decker, Gert- Martin Greuel, Gerhard Pfister, and Hans Beautiful man and is under the free GNU General Public License. It is for most hardware and software platforms available, in addition to various Unixes such as Linux and Mac OS X, and Windows (using cygwin or virtualization ).
