Siphonopidae
Siphonops paulensis
The Siphonopidae are a family of caecilians ( Gymnophiona ) that is found in South America.
Features
Like all caecilians are the Siphonopidae wormlike amphibians without limbs and with a sharply formed tail. The Siphonopidae have are the only viviparous ( live-bearing ) caecilians that an imperforate stapes ( ear bones ) and lacking the inner row of teeth in the lower jaw.
Phylogenetically, they are defined as those caecilians, with Siphonops annulatus closer than with Dermophis mexicanus or Hypogeophis rostratus are related.

System
Within the caecilians the Siphonopidae are the sister group of Dermophiidae, both families stand together in a sister group relationship to the Indotyphlidae. (See caecilians: Section taxonomy)
