Siple Island

Siple (English Siple Iceland ) is a permanently snow-covered, uninhabited island in the Antarctic. It is located in West Antarctica and is separated by the Getz Ice Shelf from the Bakutis Coast of Marie Byrd Land.

According to the location of the island 's climate is polar and characterized by strong winds.

The approximately 110 -kilometer-long island with an area of about 6390 km ² in the north- west by the 3110 m high Mount Siple, an inactive volcano, dominates.

Island and mountain are by Paul Allman Siple (1908-1968), an American Antarctic explorer and geographer named.
