Sir Hugh Elliott, 3rd Baronet

Sir Hugh Francis Ivo Elliott, 3rd Baronet ( born March 10, 1913 in Allahabad, India, † 21 December 1989) was a British ornithologist and administrator of Tristan da Cunha. In 1961 he inherited the title Baronet.

Hugh Elliott is a graduate of University College, Oxford. From January 31 1950 to October 30, 1952 he was the first Administrator of Tristan da Cunha. From 1974 to 1975 he was editor of the Bulletin of the British Ornithologists 'Club from 1975 to 1979 he was president of the British Ornithologists ' Union.

From 1963 to 1966, Elliott Director General of IUCN. For this organization, he published several articles, including IUCN 's Twelfth Technical Meeting. Douzième reunion technique de L' IUCN. Banff, Alberta, Canada. 12 to 15 September 1972. ( = IUCN Publications New Series No. 28). (1973) and Second World Conference on National Parks ( Yellowstone & Grand Teton, 1972) ( 1974). One of his best known works is The Herons of the World, which he wrote in 1978 with James Hancock.
