Sirius FM-5

Sirius FM -5 is a communications satellite for radio operator Sirius Satellite Radio. The satellite was launched on 30 June 2009 at 20:10 UTC by a Proton-M of the company International Launch Services (ILS ) to a Geosynchronous orbit at 23975 km to 46983 km altitude with an inclination of 63.4 °. The satellite separated nine hours and 14 minutes after the start of the rocket.

The contract for the construction of Sirius FM -5 with Space Systems / Loral (SS / L) was announced in June 2006. Sirius FM -5 complements the services of the previous three Sirius satellites. He should offer radio services for the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean on behalf of Sirius communications company.

Reception

Sirius FM - 5 receives the X-band and transmits radio programs in S-band with a transmitter power of about 20 kW of which he is one of the most powerful satellites ever built. The deployable transmitting antenna has a diameter of nine meters.
