Action
Damascus 1925: The cynical arms dealer Harry Smith supplies during the French occupation in Syria rebel leader Emir Hassan. Smith falls in love with Violet, the wife of the French intelligence chief Col. Feroud.

"Away in " Casablanca " reminiscent spy story from the colonial war that gives Humphrey Bogart the opportunity to play a cynical arms dealer in a trench coat similar to Rick Blaine. Bogart's company Santana produced. Template was the novel " The coup de grace " by Joseph Kessel ( Belle de Jour ). The relatively realistic drama of money, betrayal and love was specialized by Curtis Bernhardt, on Hollywood melodramas ( " Purgatory ", " Possessed " ), staged. Lee J.
