Å irvintos

Širvintos ( German: Schirwindt ) is a small town and seat of the Rajongemeinde in the east of Lithuania in Vilnius region. It has around 7,000 inhabitants.

The city's name is derived from the river Širvinta flowing through Širvintos.

History

Širvintos was first mentioned in 1475, when the first church was built on the site. There is evidence, though, that the place was already in the 14th century.

In 1950 Širvintos received city rights.
