Site acceptance test

The factory acceptance test, the acceptance of a product or the manufacturer. The factory acceptance test usually joins the site acceptance test with the customer.

This may be the acceptance of a system or machine, as well as software in the field of information technology in plant construction and mechanical engineering. The factory acceptance test is usually carried out jointly by the client and the contractor or their agents.

The decrease includes the following activities (example: engineering, but analogous other industries ):

  • There is the examination of the machinery or plant to be exhaustive of its components. Basis of the examination are the specifications of the requirement specification and optionally further agreed by contract amendments ( change request ) provided that these have become part of the contract. This also includes the test results documented by the supplier in test protocols are used.
  • In addition, can be a functional test (English Factory Acceptance Test, abbreviated FAT). Here, it is determined whether the test can be reproduced also documented in the place of use. This is particularly important in order to detect, for example, transportation and final assembly damage.

Have the tests carried out found no or only minor defects, the machine can be removed. By contrast, if significant defects have been found, the factory acceptance test is performed again after prior fulfillment ( defects) by the supplier until the flawlessness of the machine is determined. Alternatively, it is the freedom of choice of the customer to accept the machine in spite of reported deficiencies, in this case, usually a compensation scheme is introduced (for example, discounts, extended warranty, free or reduced-cost supply of spare parts ).

All steps of the factory acceptance test will be recorded in a written acceptance certificate, which is then signed jointly by client and contractor.

The factory acceptance test is carried out as in other industries, such as electrical engineering.
