Sitting volleyball

Sitting volleyball is a variant of volleyball and is offered in Germany mainly in disabled sports. The game was invented in the Netherlands and is based on volleyball. It has been modified so that it can be played by people with disabilities.

It is a sport that can play in the disabled and non-disabled and non- disabled together, is by its movement restrictions on the ground, rather at a disadvantage. Sitting volleyball is played sitting on the hall floor, otherwise apply, with some exceptions, the normal volleyball rules.

The main differences compared to the conventional rules VolleyballSport

  • The service may be blocked.
  • The field is smaller ( 5 mx 6 m to 9 mx 9 m instead of 18 mx 9 m).
  • The net height is lower (1.15 meters Male / 1.05 meters women).

Team constellation for league games

This is regulated differently. At the invitation tournaments with international participation takes place no restriction with respect to a disability. At the German Championships, all players must provide proof of a disability of at least 20%. Mixed teams ( Men & Women ) are allowed.

Movement

The players can move with the help of arms and legs on the ground. Supreme basic rule is that the hull at the time an action is on the ground. If this is not the case, the opponent wins point and serve.

Counting

Since the sitting volleyball rules follow the international volleyball rules, since 1999 one of every ball point. The one team that has achieved the first 25 points, two points ahead, wins the set. The game goes to the team that has won the first two sets, the third set ( tiebreaker ) is played to only 15 points.
