Siviriez ( Freiburg Patois Cheveri? / I ) is a municipality in the district of the canton of Fribourg Glane in Switzerland. With effect from 1 January 2004, the previously independent municipalities Chavannes- les-Forts, Prez -vers- Siviriez and Villaraboud were merged with the municipality Siviriez.

Geography

Siviriez is located at 777 m above sea level. M., 5.5 km southwest of the district town Romont (air line). The farming village extends slightly elevated on a Molasseplateau in the dale of the Ruisseau de Jogne, west of the upper reaches of the Glane, in the south-western Fribourg country.

The area of ​​20.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molasseplateaus of Fribourg Mittelland. The area is crossed from the southwest to the northeast of the Glane, which forms a 0.3 to 1 km wide flat Talniederung. This valley is flanked on the west by the heights Sur la God (865 m above sea level. M. ) and La Moille ( 834 m above sea level. M. ). To the northwest of the municipality of soil over the little valley of the Ruisseau de Jogne on the broad plateau ( 800 m above sea level. M. ) adjacent east to the middle reaches of the Broye enough. The culmination form the height of Le Saulgy ( 861 m above sea level. M. ) and the Forest Hill Les Dailles ( 832 m above sea level. The municipality also includes the ground east of the heights lying valley of the Ruisseau de Chavannes and the lower portion of the creek Fochaux. To the east, the municipal area extends over the gently sloping north slope of Villaraboud to the bog surface L' Ochère. In the far south, the area extends to the vicinity of the source of Glane. From the municipality surface 1997 8 % were settlements, 17 % of forest and woody plants, 74 % in agriculture and somewhat less than 1% was unproductive land.

To Siviriez includes the villages of Prez -vers- Siviriez ( 765 m above sea level. M. ), Chavannes- les-Forts ( 784 m above sea level. M. ), Villaraboud (750 m above sea level. M. ), Villaranon ( 791 m above sea level. M. ) and Le Saulgy ( 841 m above sea level. M. ), and also the hamlet of La Foule ( 721 m above sea level. M. ), La Pierraz (718 m above sea level. Population

With 2153 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Siviriez belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 94.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 2.0 % and 1.9 % speak German portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Siviriez amounted in 1900 to 1823 inhabitants (including the now incorporated villages ). After peaking around 1950 (1988 inhabitants), a strong migration, so that Siviriez 1970 counted only 1458 inhabitants. Only since about 1980, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Siviriez was until the second half of the 20th century, a predominantly shaped by the agriculture community. Even today, the dairy industry, animal husbandry and agriculture have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In the municipality of companies in the construction industry, the cookhouse, mechanical workshops, as well as carpentry and carpenters are represented. In the extreme north- east of the municipality are located above Drognens the barracks of the parade ground of Romont. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location and into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions Romont and Freiburg.

Traffic

Siviriez traffic is comparatively quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Romont via Ursy to Moudon. On September 4, 1862, the railway line from Lausanne to Freiburg was taken with a station in Siviriez in operation. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois, which runs from Romont via Ursy and Oron- la- Ville Palézieux- Gare, Siviriez is also connected to the public transport network.

History

The first mention of the village dates from the 12th century under the name Seurei, Seuirei and Severiacus. Later, the names Sivrie ( 1228 ) published, Sivirie ( 1247 ), Syvrie ( 1285), Siurier ( 1403 ), Sivirier ( 1578) and Cheverie (1755 ). The place name is derived from the Latin personal name Sever (i ) us.

Since the mid-13th century Siviriez was under the House of Savoy rule. This Siviriez was oriented to rule Romont, while today's southern parts of municipalities with Prez -vers- Siviriez and Le Saulgy for Savoy Kastlanei Rue included (this division of the community remained until 1848 made ​​). When the Bernese 1536 Vaud conquered Siviriez came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Romont been assigned. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Romont and was incorporated in 1848 in the District Glane.

A first enlargement of the municipal area of Siviriez took place on 1 January 1978, when the previously independent municipalities Le Saulgy and Villaranon were incorporated. Since the coat of arms was amended for the first time. As part of since 2000 sponsored by the Canton of Fribourg municipal mergers and the villages Prez -vers- Siviriez, Chavannes- les-Forts and Villaraboud were merged with Siviriez with effect from 1 January 2004.
