Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (English for: "Six Dimensions of restlessness " ) is the sixth studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released in January 2002. It is the first and only studio album, which was released as a double CD. The cover was designed by Dung Hoang.

Content

The album consists of two CDs. The first includes five songs that are between seven and fourteen minutes, and the second the 42 -minute title track, " Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence ".

With " The Glass Prison" the so-called " AA Saga ," in which drummer Mike Portnoy began his experience with alcoholism and Alcoholics Anonymous processed ( every song of this saga is dedicated to " Bill W. and his friends "). This saga consists of twelve parts, which extend to five songs; next to " The Glass Prison" treat "This Dying Soul" (Train of Thought ), " The Root of All Evil" ( Octavarium ), " Repentance " ( Systematic Chaos ) and "The Shattered Fortress" ( Black Clouds & Silver Linings ) this topic.

The song " Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence ", which consists of eight parts, is about six people who suffer from a mental disorder each other. The lyrics to the parts were written entirely by John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy.

The noise that can be heard in the intro of "The Glass Prison" is the same sound ( a turntable ), which is also the end of the previous album Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory is heard.

The final chord of "Losing Time / Grand Finale " is used in a fade-in as the beginning of the next album Train of Thought.
