Six gill stingray ( Hexatrygon bickelli )

The six- gill stingray ( Hexatrygon bickelli ) is a ray species described until 1980, which was placed in a monotypic genus and own family. Six gill stingrays were found on soft sediments on the shelf off South Africa, in Japan, Australia and Hawaii, in depths of 350-1120 meters. Other species of the family described are probably only subspecies or local forms.

The fish stand out with their elongated snouts. They have six gill slits. Your top is brown or dark purple, the underside white. They are up to 1.43 meters long.
