Sixpence None the Richer

Sixpence None the Richer is a Pop-/Rock-Band from Texas, who settled in Nashville. She became famous by the song Kiss Me (1999 used in the movie " She's All That " ) and There She Goes, a cover version of the hit of the La's.

The band has existed since the early 1990s. The Christian-oriented band named after a passage from CS Lewis' book Mere Christianity ( Mere Christianity ).

From the end of 2004, the first members went their own ways and published partly solo albums. In the fall of 2007, the group was formed again.

Band History

Guitarist and songwriter Matt Slocum met vocalist Leigh Bingham Nash in the early 1990s. They took along a demo tape under the title The Original Demos is in circulation today; In 1993, an album, The Fatherless and the Widow for the label REX Music. The album was drummer Chris Dodds of Slocum's previous band Love Coma here who joined shortly after the release of the album of the new band. There were also guitarist Tess Wiley, bassist and drummer J. J. Plasencio Dale Baker, who had to listen to the album This Beautiful Mess ( 1995).

In 1997, the band signed a contract with the music label Squint Entertainment and brought the album Sixpence None the Richer out, which caught the attention of a wider audience. End of 1998, Kiss Me was released as a single. The song became a hit on both sides of the Atlantic and just missed the number-one position in the United States. Kiss Me was " She's All That " can also be heard in the film, 2001, he also appeared in the film Not Another Teen Movie on. In an episode of the television series Dawson 's Creek, the song was also used.

Beginning of 2012 appeared a cover version in a commercial of BIPA.

In spring 1999 the band recorded a cover version of There She Goes by The La's, which was her second hit single. This recording was also added to the re-release of her album Sixpence None the Richer, now also entered the charts and was ultimately awarded a platinum record. This song was also by the series My life is known in Germany & I, since he can be heard at the beginning of each episode in the background.

The band had already recorded a second album, but her record company had problems and was purchased much later by Word Records. Only in October 2002 was therefore a new album, Divine Discontent, published. It differed significantly from the version that was originally supposed to appear - the pieces that were not out of the 1999's sessions, appeared on almost all later on singles or compilations.

The band recorded over the next few years several cover versions that appeared on various tribute albums or compilations, including songs by the Beach Boys, the Electric Light Orchestra, Sam Phillips, Crowded House, Pat Boone, Vera Lynn, Petra, ABBA and U2.

On 26 February 2004 Matt Slocum announced in an open letter to the Contemporary Christian Music Magazine that the group had disbanded.

On July 22, 2004 said CCMBuzz that Matt Slocum with Lindsay Jamieson (formerly Departure Lounge ) and Sam Ashworth have founded a new band, the Astronaut Pushers. John Davis (formerly at Superdrag ) joined the band in 2005. Leigh Nash continued as a solo artist and in 2006 published a first album.

In November 2007, decided to Leigh Nash and Matt Slocum, the group to revive. In 2008, the EP My Dear Machine and the album The Dawn of Grace have been published.
