SJ F

The locomotives of the SJ F series from 1942 were put into operation in fast - electric locomotives of the Swedish State Railways Statens Järnvägar with the wheel arrangement 1'Do 1 '.

History

While the Västra stambanan was electrified between Stockholm and Gothenburg until 1926, it was expanded during the 1930s for the speed of 120 km / hr.

However, at this time had no SJ locomotive for this speed. So when Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget ( ASEA ), the new F series ( created from 1863 to 1886 there was the C -coupled SJ F ( I) and 1914-1937 had a 2'C 1'h4v steam locomotive from the designation F ( II) worn).

First, the SJ 1942 ordered three test specimens for the new express locomotive with various forms of power transmission, which followed from 1945 to 1949 a series of 21 machines. With the F- locomotives were transported on the routes Malmö -Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg, Stockholm and Gothenburg and Stockholm -Oslo -speed trains. From the late 1960s and during the 1970s they were replaced by the new series SJ Rc from these applications. Most locomotives were retired in 1978-1983, the last of them were used in the Stockholm area. In the last period of use and their top speed of 135 km / h to 100 km / h was limited.

Three locomotives have been preserved. The F 621 is in Swedish Railway Museum ( Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum ) in Gävle, the F 696 and F 701 were from Stockholm's Culture Society for steam engines and railways (Stockholms Kultursällskap promote ANGA och Järnväg ) taken.
