SJ Tp

The Tp series was obtained from Statens Järnvägar (SJ ) in the early 1950s to replace steam locomotives on Swedish narrow gauge lines. The order included 25 locomotives, 20 of which were supplied by MaK in Kiel. Five more were built under license in Sweden by AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna ( ASJ ) in Falun. Deviating from the usual Swedish coloring this locomotive was painted in green and had a red buffer bar.

Use

The locomotives were used in Västergötland and Småland and later on the Roslagsbana and northern Uppland. They were seen in the area around Kalmar and Öland. In connection with the dismantling of the track Uddeholm Deje 1990/91 Tp was 3500 leased to the Nordmark - Klarälvens Järnväg short notice.

The locomotives were very hard for narrow gauge lines. This may result in derailment. Some sections were too weak for use, so there were steam locomotives continue to be used. One example was the route Vaxjo Brittatorp - Oskarshamn, where steam locomotives regularly remained in operation until 1963.

Until the mid- 1960s were the locomotives passenger and freight trains transported later only freight trains. Then some narrow-gauge railways were converted to standard gauge spurt or shut down, so that the SJ unneeded part of the Tp. 15 locomotives were converted to standard gauge and were given the series designation T23.

Six locomotives were scrapped in the 1970s, while the other four remained until the 1980 years in the service. The two locomotives in service on the route Vaxjo Västervik until the cessation of 1986 received buffer in order to carry standard gauge wagons with transfer carriage can. The other two drove on until its closure in 1987 the route Nossebro - Vara Skara Götene.

These four locomotives were preserved and are now at the Uppsala - Lenna Järnväg, antenna Gräfsnäs Järnväg and Skara Lundsbrunns Järnvägar set.
