Sjur Lindebrække

Sjur Lindebrække ( born April 6, 1909 in Voss, † October 1, 1998 in Bergen ) was a Norwegian lawyer, banker and Conservative politician.

Life

Lindebrække grew up in Bergen in 1927 and made there the final exam. He studied law at the University of Oslo and graduated in 1931. Subsequently, he worked as a lawyer in Nordfjord from 1932 to 1933 and was until 1936 a legal research fellow. He undertook in 1935 and 1937, study trips to France and England. During the Second World War, he was a resistance fighter in Bergen. In the mountains Private Bank, he was first deputy director from 1940 to 1945, and then President from 1959 to 1968 and from 1968 to 1976 Chairman of the Board. He was from 1945 to 1953 Member of the Norwegian Parliament Storting and 1962-1970 Chairman of the Conservative Party Høyre.

Lindebrække was from 1976 to 1981 a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab he belonged to as an honorary member. In 1960 he was awarded the Olav's Medal ( Knight 1st class).
