Skansens bergbana

The Skansen bergbana ( German: Skansen Mountain Railway ) is a funicular railway, which operates in the Swedish capital Stockholm from the southern part of the island of Djurgården to the Skansen hill. The railway was opened in its first half as long execution in 1897 and was decommissioned in 1959 due to aging. After overhaul and extension, it was reopened in July 1973.

History

Construction and opening

Skansen, the cable car was built on July 28, 1897 on the occasion of the General Art and Industrial Exhibition (Swedish: Allmänna const -och industriutställningen ) in Stockholm. The design came from the Swiss company Von Roll, which also received the construction contract and completed the course.

Decommissioning of the first web

The first train, which was only 107 meters long possessed (slope between 25 and 34 %) and over wooden train cabins for up to 16 people, still drove until 1959, when it was closed due to the poor condition of track and vehicles for transport.

Opening of the new railway

The web since 1973

The train runs between the valley station " Hazeliustor " (height 39.27 m above sea level) in the southern Djurgården and Ting Vallen / Bollnästorget to the mountain station on the hill the open air museum Skansen (height 73.94 m above sea level), a spacious landscaped park overlooking the city. It is just about 200 m long, has a track gauge of 1000 mm and has some stretch in the middle of a passing place in the form of an automatic Abtschen crossover without moving parts. The route follows a straight piece by the base station of a curved bridge and overcomes a total height difference of 34.67 meters. The slope is 9.1 to 24.7 %. The vehicle speed is between 0.8 and 2.5 m / s, a trip takes about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

The two -axle vehicles with a center distance of 3759 mm have rounded at the corners fully closed car body made ​​of steel with three stepped interior compartments and generous glazing. You do not have lights on the front sides and hold a total of up to 45 people.

Operation today

Operation is in contrast to earlier without a motorman per car cabin. It is so unlike most other plants not operated fully automatically, since the web is not operated as an elevation of the passengers on request. The complete range is under camera surveillance. The track is open all year round, the car sequence is in the summer months depending on passenger volume of between 15 and 20 minutes.
