Skanska

Skanska AB (Swedish Aktiebolaget Skanska Cementgjuteriet ), listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, is a multinational construction company from Sweden. The company's headquarters is located in Solna. The company operates in Scandinavia, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic, USA and Latin America.

Skanska AB has approximately 54,000 employees (2006 ) worldwide.

History

The company was founded in 1887 as Cementgjuteriet Skåne ( Skåne cement foundry) of Rudolf Fredrik Berg and began the manufacture of individual Baumittelprodukte. It quickly evolved into a construction company and within ten years, the company received its first international works contract. The group played a significant role in the establishment of the Swedish infrastructure, including roads, power plants, office buildings and homes.

The growth in Sweden was followed by an international expansion. Mid-1950s, the company decided to major step in the international markets.
