Skärva House

The estate Skärva is the country seat, to the Swedish Fredrik Henrik af Chapman shipwright was built northwest of Karlskrona 1785-1786. The estate is now privately owned and operated since 1976 monument and part of the World Heritage naval port of Karlskrona.

Fredrik af Chapman was assisted in the construction by the architect Carl August Ehrensvard and himself lived until 1806 on the estate. The main building consists of only one floor with about 20 rooms and has the form of a recumbent H. In the middle of the house a lighthouse -like structure has been placed. The entrance area is marked by a portico with four columns. Af Chapman's work space resembles a ship's cabin and the south to "Chinese room " is equipped with about 100 Chinese drawings.

The estate is further characterized by a number of prominent outbuildings. The " Temple of Diana " called Lust House was inspired by ancient temples and the bell tower is one of the first examples of Swedish Neo-Gothic dar. also a grave for Fredrik af Chapman was intended, although he was later buried in the cemetery in Augerum.
