Skimmer (machine)

A skimmer is a device in artificial lakes, garden ponds or pools and other liquid containers, which sucks the dirt from the water surface.

Dust, leaves, oil or other contaminants cause the Teich-/Seewasser is with too many nutrients enriched from the outside and thus covered with algae and cloudy. A skimmer in a pond or lake prevents this process and only can not be that the surface contamination clouding the water. In larger scale a correspondingly larger number of water extraction points is installed. Skimmer can also be used, for example, to clean cooling water.

Basic structure (example)

Typical structure of a skimmer: A vertically into the water built large diameter pipe, the water surface even bigger / more becoming; is connected via a pipe connection to a suction pump is mounted in front of a coarse strainer ( sieve).

Oil skimmer

Skimmer can also be executed with a continuous tube in which the oil sticks. Pushing the hose on the surface and removed as floating oil and grease from surfaces of the liquid by means of a cam. This collects the oil or fat from the surface and will be cleaned by scrapers in the device. The removed oil or fat is then collected in a separate container. Mainly there are three types.
