Skip & Flip

Skip & Flip was a U.S. pop duo, with It Was I ( # 11) and 1960 Cherry Pie ( # 11) had two 1959 Top 20 hits on the Billboard charts.

Band History

Skip Battin ( born February 18, 1934) and Gary S. Paxton met at the University of Arizona know and realized that they were musically on the same wavelength. In 1957 she founded her first group, the pledges. They released the single Betty Jean ( Rev Records), but which did not reach high chart position, whereupon the name was Pledges dropped back.

They recorded more songs which they released on the Shad label. Your band name they changed initially with each release, among others were Chuck & The Chuckles, Gary Clyde & His Orchestra and Gary & Clyde. Under the latter name two more singles were released: 1958 Why Not Confess? ( Rev Records) and 1959 The Twister ( May Records).

In 1959, Gary Paxton and Skip Battin group changed their name again. Well they called Skip & Flip. The very first single under this name, It Was I, was in the top twenty on the U.S. charts, and also the follow-up single Fancy Nancy managed to position 71 made ​​it into the charts. The following year was the band with Cherry Pie, a cover version of a song by Marvin & Johnny from 1954, repeating the success of the first single and be placed again at position 11. It appeared after a few more singles, which, however, was not a commercial success had granted. Then the duo broke up.

After the dissolution

After Paxton and Battin had separately, Paxton teamed the band Hollywood Argyles, which in 1960 had a number -one hit with alley-oop. He was also a successful music producer (eg for Bobby " Boris " Pickett's Monster Mash worldwide hit ).

Skip Battin founded a number of smaller, mostly insignificant bands before the group The Byrds, The New Riders of the Purple Sage and The Flying Burrito Brothers joined as vocalist and bass player.
