Skolelinux

Skolelinux (or Debian -Edu ) is a specialized adaptation of Debian GNU / Linux (called a Debian Pure Blend) for school needs. The now international project was founded in Norway ( Skole = School ) and delivered on a single installation CD- ROM all the necessary configuration profiles to operate a typical school network. Even untrained users can install as a stand-alone computer in a few steps both a communication server with LDAP user database, a terminal server, workstation or notebook. It comes on both the server and on the desktop workstations exclusively free software to use, including a lot of educational software. The CipUX framework with its central user support, server and client management CAT has been ported to skolelinux 2005.

History

The skolelinux Project was founded on 2 July 2001, about the same time Raphael Herzog began in France with Debian Edu. Since 2003, the two projects are one, and the names are synonyms. Some say that Debian Edu is the name of the project, and skolelinux the name of the distribution. Today number of volunteers working on the development of the project: Over 130 programmers support skolelinux which includes as Debian Edu developer from Norway, France, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Brazil and the United States. 2009 skolelinux is tested in a pilot phase at eleven schools in the state of Rhineland -Palatinate, having already Hamburg introduced the system in its schools.
