Sled Dowabobo

Sled Dowabobo ( born March 31, 1983, Nauru ) is a nauruischer judoka.

Life

Dowabobo discovered at the age of 13 years, his passion for judo, in contrast to the Nauru Weightlifting plays a minor role and is not funded by the state. He began to train in the local club judo, but practiced the sport always alongside his work as a construction worker and carpenter. He participated in various small judo tournaments since he participation in major competitions financially could not afford.

Since 2009 Dowabobo is sponsored by the Oceanic Judo Union ( OJU ), which in London received a grant from the International Judo Federation in the course of preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The OJU was so in several Pacific countries organize training camps and scholarships. Dowabobo visited two years a training camp in Samoa, where he was coached by New Zealander Patrick Mahon. The financial support of the OJU enabled him also to participate in judo tournaments overseas. Among other things, he joined in 2010 at the World Cup in Apia against David Papaux and 2011 World Cup in Paris against Edson Marcel Madeira, in Apia against Alejandro Clara. Dowabobo lost it all competitions. Although in his class, he was ranked 136 in the world rankings at the time of the Olympic qualifiers to 73 kg, he was " thanks to a tangled system of qualifications " as one of 34 judoka his weight class for the 2012 Olympic Games in London qualify. He was thus the eighth athlete who was sent by the Nauru National Olympic Committee for the Olympic Games. He was also the first non- weightlifters who represented Nauru at the Olympics. Nauru was - with Dowabobo and weightlifter Itte Detenamo - also 2012, the smallest Olympic team in London.

Dowabobo coached from 2010 to December 2011 at training camp in Samoa. This was followed by May 2012 several months training camp in Brisbane, where Dowabobo gained further experience in judo club his coach Patrick Mahon. As of June 2012, Dowabobo held at the University of Bath on to further training. July 30, 2012 Dowabobo lost in judo in the first round of the class to 73 kg after 70 seconds against the Uzbeks Nowruz Jurakobilov.
