Sleeping Gypsy is a 1977 recorded pop jazz album by Michael Franks. With the album Franks, who wrote all the songs himself, has created a blend of jazz, pop, soul and bossa nova. It is his third album under his own name.
The album was produced by Tommy LiPuma, who had to arrange the titles of Claus Ogerman and Franks with famous jazz musicians such as Michael Brecker, David Sanborn and Joe Sample of the Crusaders brought together.
Background
The CD begins with The Lady Wants to Know and contains obeisance to the jazz legends John Coltrane and Miles Davis ( Daddy's Just Like Coltrane, Baby's Just Like Miles ). With Bwana -He No Home is a story that happened when Frank was not at home and one of his friends, Dan Hicks, caller abwimmelte with these words.
With Down in Brazil and Antonio 's Song ( The Rainbow ), a tribute to the Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, Frank followed the example of Stan Getz, the previously Brazilian rhythms made a decade known to a large audience.
The pianist Joe Sample composed the music for Chain Reaction, drummer John Guerin the music for Do not Be Blue.
