Sliač

Sliač is situated on the river Hron a town in central Slovakia between Zvolen ( Zvolen ) and Banská Bystrica ( Banska Bystrica ).

The municipality was created in 1959 by the merger of the municipalities Hájniky and Rybare, where the municipality of Rybare the famous Bad Sliač ( Sliačske kúpele or Sliač Kúpele, Hungarian Szliácsfürdő ) belonged. 1988 were incorporated Sampor, Lukavica and VeLka Lúka. Lukavica was but in 1990, VeLka Lúka again in 1995 an independent municipality. The Sliač International Airport is located 3 km north- west of the town.

History

The thermal springs of on a hill above the left bank of the river Hron ( German Gran ) situated Health Spa Sliač be mentioned in the 13th century. The bathroom became more widely known through a four-week stay of Archduke Joseph, Palatine of Hungary in the company of his wife, the Archduchess Maria Dorothea in 1823. The spa was purchased in 1878 by George André Lenoir and under his management the place was (then Szliács, also Sliatsch, expanded in low - Hungary) to an elegant Modebad, which was particularly sought out in 1900 by the wealthy Hungarian society. We strolled under double rows of trees and in the bandstand the latest tunes came to the performance, eg of Franz Lehár, who sometimes even conducted himself here. After the death of GA Lenoir, the spa came as part of the Lenoir Foundation under the care and administration of the city of Kassel, which continued to develop the cure and promoted. The bathroom Sliač was the main source of income working for the benefit of orphans foundation. Because of the difficulty of managing the First World War, the Foundation sold the administrative bath 1918 Alexander Justusz. This was expropriated in 1922 by the newly founded Czechoslovak state and Sliač was Staatsbad. The sources are rich in minerals and carbonic acid.
