Slippage

Under slippage (English: " slip " ) is defined as:

  • In Genetics slippage of the DNA polymerase during the replication of the newly synthesized strand at loop formation. In the repair, however, the template strand is then extended, rather than cut out the loop. This happens mainly in sequences that consist of small repeating units ( microsatellite DNA ) so that proof-reading activity ( ie the offset) is no longer possible. Characterized the number of repetitions is reduced, but often can be increased. The more repeat units there are, the more likely the event. This is in the development of diseases such as Huntington's disease and Fragile X syndrome is of enormous importance and a possible emergence cause. Increasing with the rising number of repetitions and the severity of the disease, it is called anticipation.
  • In surgery slippage of implants, such as gastric bands.
  • In project management slippage and thus miss a milestone or completion date
  • In stock market trading (slip, loss ) the difference between the estimated and actual costs for the purchase of securities ( in sales analog). Slippage arises, inter alia, by a lack of efficiency in the execution of orders by the broker or low volatility.
