The Gailitz ( Italian: Slizza; slow: Zilica, mundartl ( iG ) Ziljíca, ( in the Val Canale ) Ž ( i) ljíca. . ) Is a right side of the river Gail in Italy and Austria. Its catchment area is approximately 188 km ².

The origin of the Gailitz is below the saddle - Nevea in Italy. It flows through the Raibler lake (Lago di Predil ) below the Predilpasses ( 1156 m slm ). Then the river flows past to the north, to Tarvisio and reaches Thoerl - Maglern at an altitude of 600 m Austrian territory. West of Arnold Stein it flows into the Gail ( 548 m).

The Valley of Gailitz forms an important transport link between Austria and Italy.

The Gailitz is characterized by a herbstnivales flow regime. At the level Thoerl - Maglern the Gailitz has an average discharge ( MQ ) of 7.9 m³ / s The mean annual flood ( MJHQ ) is 94 m³ / s, the highest high water on 18 November 1996 was 154 m³ / s

Through the wastewater from the lead smelter near Arnold Stein and the Flotationsabwässer of mining in the Raibl Gailitz was deserted for decades. By wastewater treatment or the setting of the lead smelter, the water quality from 1987/88 has improved substantially. The Gailitz today has a water quality class II ( slightly polluted ). Even fish have settled down again. Is predominant in the brown trout, in the bottom section there are also grayling and Koppen.
