Slottsskogen, HÃ¥bo

Slottskogen is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Uppsala County and in the historical province Uppland.

Location

Slottskogen belongs to the municipality Håbo. The village is located about 20 km as the crow south of the center of the provincial capital of Uppsala and 15 km north of the community center Bålsta on Skofjärden, a part of Lake Mälaren. The village lies on the Sko Peninsula ( Skohalvön ), which is surrounded on the east, north and west of the foothills Mälaren. Therefore, the road to Uppsala is significantly longer than the direct distance. From the center of Stockholm to Castle is just 50 kilometers away. To Castle is the second largest town of the community Håbo after its administrative center Bålsta.

History and Sights

Slottskogen - the name means in Swedish, castle forest ' - has developed over the last decades in a wooded area just south of the castle Skokloster to a residential area with houses and recreational facilities (tennis court, swimming pool, boat and jetties on the lake), which the jointly owned residents are. Since 1980, when the place was first reported as Tätort, the population grew to more than four times. At some distance further south is another similar, slightly smaller condominium, Söderskogen.

The Skokloster from the second half of the 17th century, about two kilometers from Slottskogen, is one of the most important baroque castles in Sweden. Not far from the castle is the Skoklosters kyrka, originally from the 13th century and part of a Cistercian monastery. One kilometer further north-west stands the ruined Flasta church from the 12th century. West and north- west of the town extend two nature reserves: Sandhagens nature reserve and Arnöhuvuds nature reserve.
