Slussen

Slussen (Swedish; " the lock " ) is actually Karl Johanslussen, is a lock in Stockholm that connects Lake Mälaren with the Baltic Sea. It is located between the Old Town and Södermalm. At the same time it is the term for the adjacent transport hub with the Slussen, bus station, the starting point of Saltsjöbanan and road crossings metro station.

History

The first lock was constructed in 1642 by a Dutchman. 1750 was rebuilt by Christopher Polhem, this lasted until the 1920s.

The growing traffic could no longer be tolerated by this outmoded transport hub, one spoke only on the slusselände ( lock misery ). Therefore Slussen was changed once again, as in 1935 the clover-shaped, cross-free roundabout south was the lock. The architect was William - Olsson days.
