Slyrs [ ʃli ɐ̯s ː ] is a distillery for whiskey in the Bavarian Oberland.

Name

The name Slyrs is a pseudo - Gaelic stylization of " Schlier " as the place is called Schliersee in Bavaria by the locals. It is one of many winking allusions to the Scotch whiskey tradition.

History

Schliersee is located in the district of Miesbach in the Bavarian Highlands, about 50 km south-southeast of Munich on the same lake in the Bavarian Alps. The distillery in the village of Neuhaus was founded in 1999 by Florian Stetter, who was originally trained as a brewer, but his knowledge did apply after a few failed attempts on the whiskey distillery.

Since whiskey by law to store three years and production levels are already relatively low, each year only a limited edition of 100,000 bottles will be put on sale. The Slyrs is sold locally within the framework of visits and is available in single or dealers. Special bottlings such as Slyrs cask strength, PX or oloroso are sporadically available since 2012.

From 2015 it is planned next to the currently available three-year Slyrs which has an alcohol content of 43 % vol. has to offer, a twelve-year variation.

Production

Slyrs Bavarian Single Malt Whisky is distilled twice in pot still method in copper kettles with 1500 liters and stored in barrels made ​​from American white oak with 225 l volume. Since the end of March 2013, a sherry Edition (no. 1) with in sherry casks ( Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso ) stored whiskey is offered.

The raw material is barley malt, which is partly smoked with beechwood. The mashing are not broken, mashed, refined, sugared and fermented with yeast.

Products

The above-mentioned 43 % strength single malt is diluted with water to 30 %, sweetened with honey and caramel and flavored with vanilla, simultaneously the basis for a Whiskey Liqueur.
