Smilde
Smilde is a village and a former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of Drenthe, 30 kilometers south of Groningen and 9 kilometers south of Assen.
Smilde consists of the places Bovensmilde, Smilde, and Hijkersmilde Hoogersmilde. The municipality is located on the 1765 landscaped compound channel, south-southwest of Assen. Since the local government reform of 1998, it belongs to the administrative district Midden- Drenthe.
In the near Smilde is since 1958 a radio tower of the Dutch broadcasting. After a fire, the guyed radio mast on 15 July 2011, it erupted and collapsed in the middle.
