Smithfield is a village in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. In the census of 2000, there were 867 inhabitants.

During the American Civil War the Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan crossed the villages Moorefield, Harrisville, New Athens, Smithfield, New Alexandria, Wintersville, Two Ridge, Richmond, East Springfield, Bergholz, and Monroeville on his way north, where he defeated had to suffer. This military operation was known as Morgan's Raid.
