Smoke Fairies

The Smoke Fairies are a British vocal and guitar duo consisting of Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies, which is often supported by guest musicians. The band's name derives from the summer fog and to arouse feeische associations.

Influenced they are of American blues and British folk. Especially characteristic is the high melody of the singing duo, which is underlined by the folk harmonies of the common guitar playing. The Mojo magazine called it a " dark, lustful blues -folk ".

History

Blamire and Davies know each other from their school in Sussex, which they visited in the mid to late 1990s. They sang there together in the school choir and played on the guitars of their parents.

The year 2002 they spent in New Orleans, which they took musical inspiration. Back in England, they fell in love British Folk, which they discovered on the Sidmouth Folk Festival for themselves where they even worked as parking attendants. They then spent a year in Vancouver ( Canada ) before they started in London with appearances in public.

In 2007 they supported Bryan Ferry on his UK tour and in the spring of 2009 the band The Handsome Family. Finally they started to record their own singles and also an EP, which was played on the radio and received acknowledgment by Mojo, NME and The Times. In the fall of 2009, she toured with Richard Hawley by the United Kingdom and later played at the South by Southwest ( SXSW ) festival in Austin / Texas. In December 2009, brought Jack White's Third Man label a 7 " single with the tracks " Gastown / River Song " out.

In spring 2010, Blamire aund Davies began to work on Through Low Light and Trees. Their producer was Head. The album came out on September 6, 2010. She also made ​​guest appearances on Richard Hawley False Lights EP from the country.
