The stub wing Graseule ( Mythimna impura ) is a butterfly of the family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 30 to 35 Millimeter.Die stump Wing Graseule is darker colored than the related species Mythimna straminea and Mythimna pallens. However, the brightness of the color can vary. In the medium-gray hind wings are no black Saumpunkte to find a maximum at the wing tip (apex) which can occur. On the fore wings are black dots 3-4.

Dissemination

Mythimna impura is distributed in the Palaearctic region of Ireland in the west through Turkey, Syria, the Caucasus, Kazakhstan and Mongolia to Japan in the east. In Europe one finds the way from the Arctic Circle to Spain and Italy ( including Sicily ) in the south and in the northern regions of Greece.

Way of life

The moths fly from June to September in two generations. The caterpillars overwinter and can be found from September and the following year to May. They feed on sedges ( Carex ), and various grasses ( Poaceae ). The species colonized wetlands, meadows and forest clearings and is still relatively common.
