The Sønderborg Airport ( Danish Sønderborg Lufthavn ) is an airport in Denmark near the town of Sønderborg ( Sonderborg German ). Its catchment area includes mainly southern Denmark and northern Schleswig -Holstein.

History

The airport dates back to 1950, when Ingolf Nielsen, the area of ​​today's airport as a small landing place for photo flights, he performed with the airline Jutland Flyveselskab opened. This date is often defined as the opening date of the airport. Ingolf Nielsen took the 1957 flight distance Sønderborg - Copenhagen from this program, which was flown with very small aircraft.

In the 1960s, the landing area was developed into an airport. So in 1960 hangars were built and paved the apron. 1961 were taken for a new start and runway construction, in 1964 with a total length of 900 meters, of which paved at 450 meters in the middle, the operation was passed. In 1965, the paved length was extended to 800 meters; 100 meters remained on the two start and runway ends distributed unpaved. In 1966, the airport was expanded with regional political support for the town of Sønderborg Airport. In 1969, the airport after several expansion projects, including the construction of many airport building, officially known as the Airport of Sønderborg with a start and runway length of 1200 meters was opened.

In the following decades, the airport was used by civil aviation. Analog were repeatedly undertaken expansion and modernization measures. Thus, the runway was extended by a further 300 to 1500 meters and built more hangars and a new fire station in the 1990s, 1975. In 2000, the start and runway was extended to today's 1797 meters. In subsequent years, also the maintenance area has been expanded by more hangars, extended the platforms and building new passenger facilities. Today, the airport is kept local to the part. The maintenance centers at the airport are located in the hands of various private companies.

Traffic

Currently there from the airport just a regular scheduled flight, which leads to Sønderborg in the Danish capital Copenhagen. The track is repeated several times by the airline Danish Air Transport ( until May 2012 Cimber Sterling) flown a day, usually with aircraft of type ATR 42 with space for 46 passengers. The route was set by Danish Air Transport again already on 27 July 2013.

Since June 17, 2013 thus flying the airline Alsie Express newly founded, as the only operator, up to five times a day the route Sønderborg Sønderborg Copenhagen. Used is an aircraft of type ATR 72 with currently 48 seats, which means a lot of legroom. The track is currently (14 August 2013) is the only powered by Alsie Express route.

In addition, the charter airline Air Alsie here has a maintenance center. Free meantime, the airport is also used by the Luftsportverein Alssund Flyveklub and the parachutist club Faldskærmsklubben Sønderborg.
