Snowshoe (cat)
Snowshoe (English, German: Snowshoe ) is the name of a breed. According to their distinctive white paws named, this breed combines the badge of a Siamese cat with white areas. There are two coat patterns: gloved with a limited amount of white, and two-tone with a higher proportion of white on the face and body.
Snowshoes are cuddly and loud outgoing, but have a soft voice.
Formation
Already in the 1950s there were first attempts, cats with point markings ( " Siamzeichnung " ) and white feet to breed. As founder of the breed is considered, however, the Siamese breeder Dorothy Hinds - Daugherty from Philadelphia, U.S., found three kittens with white markings in a litter of Siamese cats. By outcrossing with American Shorthair Cats and Rückverpaarung with Siamese cats, she managed to consolidate the typical drawing of Snowshoe. To be recognized as experimental breed in the breeding associations CFF and ACA 1974 by Vikki Olander, the Snowshoe was brought. However, interest declined in the Snowshoe, so that by 1977 only four animals were registered. Through the efforts of Jim Hoffman and Georgia Kuhnell finally managed to revive the breed again. 1982 received the Snowshoe Championship status in the CFF. The breeding associations TICA and ACFA followed.
In Britain, the continued existence of racial mainly by Mollie Southall and their Coldenufforsnow cattery was owed after it with Maureen Shackell only gave a Snowshoe breeder in the country in 1998.
The recognition in Germany was driven by the families Nötzig and Heintrof with the Kennel Community Nope - Heis. Unlike in the U.S. is not allowed in Germany a mating with the Snowshoe Siamese. As outcross especially Birman, Ragdoll, British Shorthair and European Shorthair served here.
