Société Bic

The BIC Group is a publicly traded French company (WKN: 860 804 and ISIN: FR0000120966 ) and the world's largest manufacturers of pens ( since 1950 ) disposable lighters ( since 1973) and disposable razors (since 1976). Since July 2008, disposable cell phones are offered. The company was founded in 1945 by Baron Marcel Bich in Paris.

The company also owns the subsidiary Tipp-Ex, the so-called White is used for correcting paper writings. In addition, the subsidiary BIC Sport, one of the world's largest manufacturer of surfboards, whose products are also marketed under the brand name Tabou.

In Italy, Greece, France and Luxembourg, the word " Bic " has become a generic name for a (disposable) pens.

The disposable lighters the company can be recognized by its typical oval shape that has not changed since the introduction. In 1985, added the BIC mini, later more models. The classic BIC lighter from 1972 and the transparent hexagonal BIC disposable ballpoint pen from 1950 are in the collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art; in the Department of Architecture and Design.

The brand name BIC is the shortened form of the name of the company founder, Bich, because its name is too similar and thus not be used internationally in the pronunciation of the English word " bitch" ( bitch ).

From 1967 to 1974, the company's main sponsor and namesake of the cycling team Equipe Cycliste was Bic.
