Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel ( SPNI ) (Hebrew: החברה להגנת הטבע, HaChevra LeHaganat HaTeva; German Society for Nature Conservation in Israel ) is the largest Israeli conservation organization. It was founded in 1953 and is headquartered in Tel Aviv. With over 100,000 members, it is one of the largest Israeli civil society organizations.

The SPNI was launched by Azariah Alon and Amotz Zahavi in response to the planned development of the agricultural Chulaebene in northern Israel into being. While the first SPNI closely oriented after its establishment in the government policy, the organization was in the 80s increasingly independent politically active and organized some protests against environmental policy decisions of state authorities. Department of Environment and Conservation (Environmental Protection Division )

SPNI operates a conservation project for the monitoring of birds of prey. The project is funded by the Israeli energy company and the EU LIFE project.

Israel Trails Committee ( ITC)

American Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel ( Aspni )

The Aspni was founded as an international organization in 1986 to support the work of SPNI in Israel by American Jews.
