Södra Latin

The Södra Latins gymnasium, short Södra Latin, is a municipal school in Stockholm in Innviertel Södermalm. A Latin school of the same name is attested since the 17th century, The Södra Latin is regarded as Sweden's oldest and selektivstes in pupil admissions and elitärstes school.

The school is known for its wide range and rich cultural life. The theater courses at the school were the later acting career among others, Julia and Johanna Högberg Sällström basis.

Building

Before the Latin school, a school was found in a St. Mary's Church in the place. The current school building was designed by Per Emanuelsson Werming and inaugurated in 1891. The building was designed so that all rooms and corridors receive direct sunlight. Overall, there were originally 21 classrooms. The school building was renovated in 1996. The auditorium is equipped with an organ of Akerman & Lund from 1892, one of the first Swedish late Romantic Orgelbauten.

Alumni

The alumni include Nobel Prize winners, administration, politicians, high-ranking clerics, leading members of the Swedish academies and senior artists. The former boys' school has been increasing since 1961 and girls. The alumni include Carl Michael Bellman ( at St. Mary School, the predecessor of Södra Latins ), Per Ahlmark, Mona Sahlin, Åsa Romson, Joakim Larsson, Tomas Tranströmer, Sven Stolpe, Stig Dagerman, Jonas Hassen Khemiri, Klas Östergren, Peter Pohl, Isaac Grünewald, Ted Gärdestad, Max Martin, Lykke Li, Danny Saucedo, Salem Al Fakir, Andreas Kleerup, Peter Asplund, Stina Nordenstam, Petra Marklund, Olle Hellbom, Pernilla August, Johanna Sällström, Shanti Roney, Jonas Karlsson, Joel Kinnaman, Helena af Sandeberg, Noomi Rapace, Helena Mattsson, Alexander Skarsgård and Henrik Sjöberg.

Södra Latins in the media

The Swedish Movies G - som i gemenskap and Hets have been partly filmed at the Södra Latin, similar to the Swedish TV series Raggadish. By Peter Pohl produced some biographical held books about school life. The music video for the song Robyn Do You Really Want Me ( Show Respect ) was partially filmed in the auditorium.

Introduction of gender-neutral locker rooms 2013

An international press coverage had the planned introduction of gender-neutral locker rooms due to an LGBT student initiative in 2013. Previously was "hen " the controversial in Sweden particles ( rather than hon (she) and han ( he ) ) systematically related, as the initiative of students. Critical remarked, among others, the Swedish blogger Isabella Löwengrip alias Blondinbella that spoke of a gender epidemic.
