Sofie Castenschiold

Torah Gerda Sofie Castenschiold ( born 1 February 1882 in Copenhagen, † January 30, 1979 in Helsingborg, married Carl Sofie Home Gyllensköld ) was a Danish tennis player.

Life

Castenschiold came in 1882 as a daughter of Jean Sofus Castenschiold and his wife Jacqueline Victoire de Fortunée serene de Acqueria to the world. As a member of the Copenhagen B.93 they participated in several part in the Wimbledon Championships and was able to reach the quarter-finals in 1910.

They also took part in the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912. In the mixed competition she could not place, but also played in the women's singles, where they met in the finals on Edith Hannam. She lost this final and got the silver medal awarded.

After the Olympics, she married Carl Gustaf Adolf Bengt Home Gyllensköld, with whom she moved to Sweden. She died at the age of 96 years in 1979 in Helsingborg.
