SoftPC

SoftPC and Soft Windows emulators are the x86 hardware.

History

These emulators were developed by Insignia Solutions. They were originally designed for UNIX workstations to run MS -DOS programs.

Later, the software on the Mac OS and also offered the possibility to use Windows. The version for the Atari ST / Falcon was never released.

The package consisting of SoftPC and Windows (3.x, 95, 98) Soft Windows was called, although it was also possible to install Windows in a SoftPC environment with zusaätzlichen effort.

In early 1996, Insignia was the market leader in this product area, but the competition was stronger by Connectix Virtual PC. Insignia sold this product line to FWB Software in October 1999 in order to concentrate in the future on Java implementations for mobile devices.

FWB sold soft Windows continue until March 2001. The same company also offered the similar software RealPC until 2003.
